PC MPP dumped from caucus over intern sexting allegations

Ontario Progressive Conservatives have kicked one of their own out of caucus over allegations of inappropriate interactions with an intern.

MPP Michael Harris left Ontario’s legislature in a hurry Monday, refusing to stop to take media questions. He also did not respond to the Toronto Sun’s requests for interviews before and after the PC announcement.

The party’s former leader Patrick Brown left under a similar #metoo cloud but denied the allegations and is now suing the media outlet that first reported them.

Harris announced this weekend that he would not run again as the MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga, saying an eye condition required surgery.

But Monday, the Ontario PCs released a statement saying the MPP would not be allowed to stay in caucus.

“The evidence presented to us included a written complaint from 2013 by a former intern about how she had been passed over for employment. There was also a series of text messages from the same time period, between the young intern and the MPP,” a PC statement says. “These text messages were of a sexual nature. They included a discussion of potential part-time employment, as well as a request for her to send him photos, an invitation for her to meet with him late that evening, and reference to something that may have previously taken place in his legislative office.”
