Your Ward News hate case put over to Aug. 22 as judge delays sentencing

The case involving a Toronto editor found guilty of promoting hatred against women and Jews has been put over until Aug. 22.

The delay is to allow James Sears to provide written material on why he believes his lawyer “threw the case.”

Sears wants to have his trial reopened, claiming his lawyer failed to mount a defence.

The editor of Your Ward News must also come up with a list of proposed witnesses.

The sentencing for publisher LeRoy St. Germaine was also put on hold. The judge wants to see if St. Germaine will agree to some kind of mediation.

St. Germaine, 77, and Sears, 55, were found guilty of hate promotion in January.
