Police searching for missing 6-year-old girl in Scarborough

Police are searching for a 6-year-old girl reported missing from her Scarborough home early Tuesday morning, and isn’t properly dressed for the weather.

A command post has been set up in the Gilder Dr. and Lord Roberts Dr. area, near Midland Ave. and Eglinton Ave. E., where Jasmine Williamson was last seen at around 1 a.m., said Const. David Hopkinson of Toronto police.

She was reported missing to police just after 7:30 a.m. and officers rushed over, according to Hopkinson.

“She’s a tiny little girl, only 65 pounds and she’s not prepared for the weather,” Hopkinson said.

Police said Jasmine isn’t wearing a coat and they believe she left her home without shoes too.

“She was with a guardian when she went missing,” Hopkinson said. “This is the time parents are putting their kids to bed. We don’t know what happened. When the caregiver woke up, they saw she was missing.”

Hopkinson said officers are concentrating their search at an apartment building at 31 Gilder Dr. where police believe she may be. There is no evidence that she has left the premises, Hopkinson said.

The girl is described as 4-feet-6 and was last seen wearing grey pants, and white and green pyjamas.

“When we get information that somebody has gone missing, we look into their history. This girl has no history of leaving her home,” Hopkinson said.

Police said an Amber Alert won’t be issued unless they suspect she has been abducted.

“In regards to this little girl, we are concerned. I hope this turns out well,” Hopkinson said.
