As redes sociais redefiniram a forma como consumimos informação e como nos expressamos. O mundo está num fluxo constante de transição, ditado pelo curso das redes sociais e dos media tradicionais. As nossas vidas são controladas pela absorção de pequenas porções de conhecimento difundidas pelos outros, sendo uniformemente tomadas como uma verdade. Quanta verdade existe nas redes sociais hoje e de quem é a responsabilidade de garantir que essas mensagens são de confiança? Muitos iriam sugerir que, atualmente, o mundo está fora de controlo, tendo em conta a proliferação incontrolável de informação e considerando que não existe metodologia para controlar as notícias.
A palavra controlo pode conjurar imagens do big brother a regular as nossas liberdades de pensamento e de expressão, mas enquanto o diálogo e os pensamentos escritos podem ser controlados, os nossos sentimentos internos não. O Google, o Facebook, o Twitter e outras plataformas tornaram-se os governadores mundiais da informação e, portanto, por atrito, o Governo típico já não controla a governação do mundo. Estas empresas têm a capacidade de definir o que podes ou não dizer, e se não gostarem da tua mensagem, simplesmente cancelam-te. Imagina a dor psicológica que muitos iriam sofrer se não tivessem acesso à internet e às redes sociais. As suas vidas mudariam para sempre. O mundo continua a sugerir que estamos todos juntos nisto, à exceção do próprio mundo. A disponibilidade imediata e constante de narrativas verdadeiras e falsas demonstra-nos que o incessante medo do mundo em que vivemos é acentuado pelos media que, muitas vezes, parecem não compreender ou ser indiferentes aos estragos que causam com a sua abordagem na divulgação de notícias. Com estas empresas de internet monstruosas a controlar o mundo e a absorver cada pedaço de informação sobre as nossas vidas, será difícil recuar o relógio para os dias em que desfrutávamos de privacidade. Eles sabem onde estamos fisicamente e qual o nosso processo cerebral de pensamento. A frustração deve-se ao facto de que não há nada que possamos fazer quanto a isso e assim que nos apercebemos que a nossa privacidade acabou para sempre poderemos começar a ajustar as nossas vidas. Podemos ser colocados num pedestal e no minuto seguinte destruídos pelo simples carregar de um botão e não podemos fazer nada. As redes sociais foram invadidas por personalidades falsas e incontroláveis que possuem livre-arbítrio para denegrir os outros, sem consequências. O discurso de ódio é agora o novo normal e isso não irá mudar porque hábitos implementados não morrem.
Aqueles que vivem em “democracias” onde a liberdade de expressão é um privilégio usufruído por todos, ao permitirem que chafurdemos pelo lado negro da internet, estão a destruir o que de bom as interações sociais nos proporcionam. Desde o início desta pandemia que, através das redes sociais e da internet, a exploração sexual de crianças aumentou 88% nos EUA; o Twitter encerrou a conta de um dos ex-Presidentes dos EUA; o Facebook e outras plataformas recolhem inteligência artificial sobre as nossas vidas 24h por dia, e nós fingimos que alguma vez as nossas vidas voltarão ao normal? O futuro será vivido com experiências robóticas controladas em ecrãs por estas empresas gigantes que estão fora de controlo. Liberdade de expressão é uma frase excelente, mas, na verdade, o que significa? Celebrar a liberdade implica respeitar as nossas vidas privadas independentemente se são boas, más ou indiferentes. A verdade terá de ser elevada a um novo nível, senão o caminho irreversível da desinformação e da falsidade será assumido como a nova verdade.
Hoje, a verdade é praticada apenas porque nos faz sentir bem, muitas vezes sem evidências ou lógica, e as pessoas parecem aceitar bem isso. Esse é um caminho perigoso de se seguir. As redes sociais e a internet são os maiores contribuidores para este conceito. A propaganda e doutrinação estão aqui para ficar, para o benefício dos nossos mestres invisíveis. Fique bem.

Socially Speaking
Social media has redefined the way we consume information and express ourselves. The world is in constant flux transitioning as the flow of social and traditional media dictates. Our lives are controlled by the absorption of tidbits of knowledge propagated by others from which the uninformed take in as truth. How much truth is there in social media today and whose responsibility is it to ensure that the messaging is trustworthy? Many would suggest that the world today is out of control with the uncontrollable proliferation of information and that the methodology used to control the news is non-existent.
The word control may conjure up images of big brother regulating our freedom of thought and speech but while dialogue and written thoughts can be controlled, our internal sentiments cannot. Google, Facebook, Twitter and others have become the defacto world governors of information and therefore by attrition, typical government no longer controls governance of the world. These companies are capable of telling you what you can and cannot say and if they don’t like your message, they simply will cancel you. Imagine the psychological pain many would suffer if they had no access to the internet and social media. Their lives simply would be changed forever. The world continues to suggest that we are all in this together but the world itself is not. The constant and immediate availability of true and false narratives shows that the constant fear of the world we currently live in is accentuated by the media which often appears not to understand or care about the damage they are causing with their approach to how news is indulged. With these monstrous internet companies controlling the world and absorbing every nugget of information they can about our lives, it will be difficult to turn back the clock to the days when we actually enjoy some privacy. They know where we physically are and what our cerebral thought process is. The frustration is the fact that there is nothing we can do about it and once we realize that our privacy is gone forever then we can start adjusting our lives. We can be placed on a pedestal one second and destroyed the next by a simple touch of a button and there is nothing we can do about it. Fake uncontrollable personalities have invaded social media and have freewill to denigrate others without any ramifications. Hate speech is now the new normal and will not change because formed habits don’t die.
Those who live in “democracies” where freedom of expression is a privilege enjoyed by all, are destroying the good that social interaction provides by allowing ourselves to wallow in the dark side of the internet. Since the beginning of this pandemic, sexploitation of children has gone up to 88% in social media and internet, Twitter shuts down the account of an ex-president of the USA, Facebook and others collect artificial intelligence on our lives 24/7 and we pretend that our lives will be normal again? The future will be lived with robotic experiences controlled on screens by these behemoth companies which are out of control. Freedom of speech is a great phrase, but what does it really mean? Celebrating freedom means respecting our private lives regardless if they are good, bad or indifferent. Truth has to be elevated to a new level otherwise the irreversible path of disinformation and fake will be the new truth.
Today truthiness is practiced only because it feels right, often without evidence or logic and people seem to be fine with it. That’s a dangerous path to follow. Social media and the internet are the biggest contributors to this concept. Propaganda and indoctrination are here to stay for the benefit of our invisible masters. Be well.
