Police arrest Oshawa man in Monday’s fatal hit-and-run at Dufferin and Briar Hill

A 27-year-old Oshawa man has been arrested and charged in the fatal hit-and-run Monday.

A 50-year-old woman was on the roadway in the area of Briar Hill Ave. and Dufferin St. around 3 p.m. when she was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling north.

Surveillance video released earlier in the week showed the driver stopping the vehicle after the collision and approaching the victim. Following a brief conversation, police said the driver returned to his truck and fled the scene at a high speed.

On Thursday, Toronto police released a new set of photos of the truck from surveillance cameras, appealing to the public for information. The driver was arrested later that day.

The family has identified the victim as Isabel Soria.

Jesse Petroff has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Petroff is scheduled to appear at Finch court Friday morning at 10 a.m.
