Naughty and Nice

Tis’ the season for hot chocolate, cozy blankets, and Christmas movies.  So, let’s strap on some jiggle bells, dash through the snow, and break down this year’s latest festive film, A Bad Moms Christmas.

Christmas and comedy have always gone together like a partridge and a pear tree.  From Ralphie’s quest for a Red Ryder air rifle to Clark Griswold odyssey for a perfect Christmas; without our favourite festive flicks, the season doesn’t feel the same.  But, how will A Bad Moms Christmas fit in with this holiday tradition?

Well, I doubt you’ll want to take your niece or nephew to see it on Christmas Eve, or have it playing in the background while everyone’s eating themselves into a turkey comma.  All the same, A Bad Moms Christmas does have something for those who aren’t afraid to turn to the naughty side.

It takes the cliché of “embracing the holiday spirit” and runs it over with a reindeer.  The Moms’ message is simple – take Christmas back!  Throw away the stress of trying to shove your family into that advertised perfect mold and focus instead on making Christmas mean something to you.

Watching the Bad Moms wreak havoc on the holiday rat race was both hilarious and satisfying.  The sexually graphic scenes were done in good fun, with the only exception being one scene that left a bad taste in my mouth because of the little girl in the room.

Running the risk of sounding like a grinch, there were some disappointing moments.  Repackaged jokes from the first movie were retrofitted with Christmas parts and then thrown at you for a laugh.  If they spent more time creating new material instead of recycling old gags, the movie would of been better for it.

All that aside, it was still a fun adult Christmas movie to watch.  If you’re like me and are sick of ads and posters telling you how to celebrate the season, A Bad Moms Christmas is a great addition to your holiday playlist.  But remember when the tree hits the curb, the “watch before date” on these festive films expires.
